--The Punjab Government today organised state level function at the historic Gurdwara Saragarhi Sahib, Firozpur Cantonment in the memory of the martyrs of the battle of Saragarhi. On this occasion, Manpreet Singh Badal, Finance Minister of Punjab, attended the function as Chief Guest while Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and Cabinet Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot joined him as special guests.
Bhog ceremony of Sri Akhand Path Sahib and Kirtan by Bhai Harnam Singh Hazoori Ragi Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar and Bhai Sukhjinder Singh Hazoori Jatha Gurdwara Saragarhi performed on this occasion at the Diwan Hall of historic Saragarhi Gurdwara, which was attended by thousands of visitors from various parts of country and abroad, ex-servicemen, family members of the martyrs, senior army officers and soldiers.
Addressing the function, the Manpreet Singh Badal said that the state government was proud to hold a state level function to commemorate the unparalleled martyrdom of the martyrs of Saragarhi besides announcing holiday to mark Saragarhi's day. "This was the day when 21 Sikh soldiers bravely fought against ten thousand Pathans till their martyrdom", he added.
On the demand of MLA Parminder Singh Pinki, Manpreet Singh Badal announced that the funds required for constructing of memorial, museum, etc. in the memory of the martyrs of Saragarhi, would be provided by the state government and the state government would made every effort to make students and people of the country aware about the great history of Saragarhi.
He said that the Punjab Government was fully committed to the overall development of the border district of Ferozepur. He said that the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, would work with full dedication to realizing the dreams of martyrs besides eradicating the menace of corruption, unemployment, illiteracy, illiteracy and drugs from the state. He also thanked the delegation of the British Army, the martyrs' families, the former army officers, the army officers, solidiers and the people from various parts of the country and abroad for attending this function. He also presented the dignitaries a comprehensive book on the Battle of Saragarhi written by Captain Amarinder Singh, the Chief Minister of Punjab.
In his address, the Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu paid tribute to the martyrs of Saragarhi and assured that the Punjab government was fully determined to realize the dreams of martyrs. He made promise that a blank check would be given to MLA Parminder Singh Pinki so that he can fill any amount required for the martyr's memorial. He said that in consultation with the Chief Minister the museum, library, etc. would be created in memory of the martyrs of Saragarhi and the Punjab government would not allow any shortage of funds in this regard. He said that we all need to get inspiration from the martyrs of Saragarhi who had sacrificed their last drop of blood for their country's protection.
Presenting floral tributes to the martyrs of Saragarhi on this occasion, Cabinet Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot remembered the courage of 21 men who fought 10,000 soldiers during the war of Saragarhi. He said that Punjab is also proud of the fact that its Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh himself is a former military officer who participated in the 1965 war. He said that Chief Minister's decision of declaring Saragarhi's day as a holiday and organising state level function in the memory of this historic battle is a historic decision in itself.
On this occasion MLA of the constituency Parminder Singh Pinki also paid floral tributes to the martyrs of Saragarhi.
During the function, heirs of Saragarhi martyrs, British Army Brigadier Timothy John Seal and associates, historian Gurinderpal Singh Joson, former officer of 4 Sikh Regiment Brigadier Kamaljit Singh, Colonel BS Chahal, Capt Amarjit Singh Jeji, ex-servicemen and their successors were also honoured.
Manpreet Singh Badal, Navjot Singh Sidhu and Sadhu Singh Dharmasot were honoured with the memento by Major General Rajesh Kundra GOC, Chairman of Saragarhi Memorial Management Committee, Sumer Singh Gurjar, Commissioner and Ramvir, Deputy Chairman-cum-Deputy Commissioner.
In the beginning of the ceremony Dr. Rameshwar Singh gave detailed information about the history of Saragarhi's. On this occasion exhibitions showing the development of various departments were also organized.
On this occasion, Gurkirat Singh Kotli, Satkar Kaur Gehri, S. Kulbir Singh Zira, Dr. Harjot Kamal, Davinder Singh Ghubaya, Nathu Ram, Tarsem Singh Atari, M.S. Chhina IG Bathinda Zone, Rajinder Singh DIG, Vineet Kumar Additional Deputy Commissioner, Bhupinder Singh SSP, Harjeet Singh Sandhu SDM, Brigadier Jatinder Singh Arora Director Sainik Welfare Punjab, Colonel Nitesh Jaswal, Colonel Abhishek Mishra, Colonel (Rt.) Amarbir Singh Chahal District Sainik Welfare Officer, Chamkaur Singh Dhindsa President District Congress Committee and a large number of civil and military officials and leaders of political parties and religious organizations were also present.
