Former competitive powerlifter Kavita Devi will become the first Indian woman to compete in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) when she takes part in the company’s first ever tournament for women next month.
The company announced on Thursday that the South Asian Games gold medal winner, who was a part of the WWE Dubai tryout earlier this year, will be among the 32 participants who will compete at the Mae Young Classic tournament.
Hailing from Haryana, Kavita has undergone training to be a professional wrestler under the guidance of The Great Khali (Dalip Singh Rana) at his Punjab based wrestling promotion and training academy.
Kavita was constable in Sashastra Seema Bal before she decided to make the switch to pro-wrestling.
Kavita has represented India in various national and international tournaments.
She shot to fame after her video, in which she wrestled against a woman wrestler named B B Bull Bull, went viral on social media.
The May Young Classic (July 13-14) will feature 32 of the top female competitors from around the world participating in a single-elimination tournament.
